WHERE IS RICE BIKES LOCATED?
Rice Bikes is located in the garage of the Housing & Dining house. Not sure where that is (we’re not surprised)? It is across the Inner Loop from Herring Hall, and across the field from Hanszen College. If none of this helps you, check out the MAP or search for us on Google Maps.

WHEN IS RICE BIKES OPEN?
Rice Bikes is Monday through Saturday, and you can find our current hours here. Rice Bikes also follows the Rice University closure schedule and is closed when the rest of the campus is closed (Natl. Holidays, Semester Breaks, etc.)

CAN I GO TO RICE BIKES EVEN IF I DON’T ATTEND RICE UNIVERSITY?
Yes! You do not have to be a current Rice University student or Faculty member to use our services. Feel free to come to our shop on Rice’s campus and we’ll be more than happy to accommodate you.

CAN RICE BIKES CUT OPEN MY BIKE LOCK?
Your best option in this case is to contact RUPD, or Rice University Housing & Dining if your bicycle is stuck at a residential college. Rice Bikes does not carry the tools to cut open a bike lock so please see one of the services listed above.

HOW CAN I REGISTER MY BIKE?
Bicycle registration is handled through the Rice University Police Department. You can find the link to bicycle registration here.

DO I HAVE TO PAY TO PUMP UP MY TIRES?
The air you breath is free, and so is the air you put in your tires! Rice University Housing & Dining has installed an air hose outside of our shop that is available 24/7 for you to use. When the shop is open, you may also ask a mechanic for a hand pump.

I CAN’T FIND THE ACCESSORY/PART I’M LOOKING FOR ON YOUR SITE.
If you can’t find the exact set of pedals, chain size or tire you desire, stop by the shop or send us an email and we’ll try our best to get you what you need. Never feel afraid to ask!

HOW CAN I WORK FOR RICE BIKES?
To be an eligible applicant, you must be a current student of Rice University, either as an undergraduate or graduate student. Keep an eye out for our job applications that are sent out 3-4 weeks before the start of each semester.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT CAN I USE?
Rice Bikes currently accepts ONLY cash and check payments. We do not take credit/debit card or Tetra, however there are ATMs near by. Full payment will be due once you come to collect your bike.

HOW DO I KNOW A BIKE IS MY SIZE/ HOW HIGH SHOULD MY SEAT BE?
Great question! Bike sizing is really important to make sure that you a comfortable and safe while riding. Below is a chart with bike sizes and their corresponding heights.

Your bike seat should be high enough that your leg can fully extend at the bottom of your rotation. However, it should also be low enough that you can lean on one leg when your bike is stopped. You’re always more than welcome to stop by our bike shop to get help with adjusting your seat for free!
